I had the opportunity to visit the beautiful country of Colombia recently and what an amazing experience it was. It's incredible how much of the culture you can soak up in so little time. The first thing I noticed was how green Colombia is. Now when I say green I am not talking about recycling even though I learned recently that Colombia is one of the world's least polluting nations. What I mean is the scenery in Colombia is filled with trees, grass, flowers, etc. It was an absolutely beautiful view. I visited Bogotá, the capital and the largest city in Colombia.
While there I took a trip up Monserrate which is a mountain that dominates the city center of Bogotá. It rises to 3,172 meters (10,407 ft.) above the sea level, where there is a church (built in the 17th century) with a shrine, devoted to "El Señor Caído" (Fallen Lord). The view on top of Monserrate is nothing short of amazing! I stopped at a cafe on the mountain top to indulge in a little Colombian snack called "Arepa con queso y chocolate" (bread with cheese and chocolate).
There were so many other things I wanted to do during my stay in Colombia but at least now I know where to go when I visit again. If you haven't been here before you should definitely add this on your list of places to see.
